SDM Ventures Pvt Ltd is a Maldivian company built on a foundation of environmental responsibility and innovation. Our story began in 2019, when Saddam Ali and Abdulla Ali co-founded SDM Farm, a pioneering initiative to propagate native Maldivian plants and restore island greenery. What started as a small nursery has grown into a nationwide sustainability movement — producing over one million plants, supplying agricultural produce across atolls, and inspiring reforestation programs. By 2024, the success of SDM Farm led to the formation of SDM Ventures Pvt Ltd, expanding operations to include mariculture and eco-tourism. Today, SDM Ventures connects land and sea — transforming communities through sustainable farming, ocean innovation, and environmental education.
Founders
​Saddam Ali is a Maldivian entrepreneur and environmental advocate with a vision to balance livelihood and nature through sustainable business.
He holds a Master’s in Human Resource Management from the Australian Institute of Business (AIB), with earlier studies at NMIT, Melbourne, and the Maldives College of Higher Education.
His leadership has been central to the growth of SDM Farm and the diversification into mariculture and eco-tourism.
Saddam has overseen projects producing over one million plants, pledged 750,000 trees under the national “5 Million Trees” initiative,
and initiated the first phase of groundwork for the large-scale seaweed mariculture project in Huvadhoo Atoll, which is currently under development.
He collaborates closely with government ministries and island councils, and is presently negotiating terms for international collaboration to link science, community engagement, and sustainable island development.
Abdulla Ali brings over 25 years of experience in the Maldives’ military service and operational management.
His background in logistics, agriculture, and mariculture ensures every SDM Ventures project runs efficiently and sustainably.
As a co-founder of SDM Farm, Abdulla’s field expertise and discipline helped transform the early nursery operation into a large-scale agricultural network.
He has deep practical knowledge of grouper and sea cucumber farming, and his leadership has been instrumental in developing the Huvadhoo Gate seaweed project.
His operational insight and ability to lead diverse teams are at the heart of SDM Ventures’ steady growth.
